Founding and Growth

Children’s Community School was founded in Mount Horeb, Wisconsin, in 1976 by Sally Flood and Pence Revington. The school was named to honor the inherent value of a child, the focus of learning, and the method through which the founders’ vision would be accomplished: community support.  The inaugural class was seven students, and the first location was on the corner of Highway 92 and County Road JG.

In the decades that followed, the school steadily expanded programming as the community grew and the needs of families changed. CCS has had three "homes" since, and current enrollment capacity nearing 100 students, but it remains a close-knit school community.

CCS purchases land at 1175 Cox Drive and launches capital campaign for new school.

2023 CCS reaches $1M capital campaign goal and opens the doors to a new, net-zero, Montessori designed school at 1175 Cox Drive. The building allows it to serve 50 percent more children and their families and expand programming. The school is recognized as a 2023 Climate Champion by Dane County.
